Oscars 2016 Recap: ‘Spotlight’ Wins Best Picture, As Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Best Actor Oscar — Complete List Of Winners
Mad Max: Fury Road and Leonardo DiCaprio may have been big winners at this year’s Oscars. However the biggest shock of the evening was the Best Picture Oscar being awarded to Spotlight.
According to the official Oscars website,Spotlight’s synopsis is as follows.
“In 2001, the journalists of The Boston Globe’s Spotlight team begin investigating Father John Geoghan, who is accused of molesting more than 80 boys. As they dig deeper and acknowledge their paper’s own failings, the team uncovers a conspiracy of lawyers and government officials who helped the Boston Archdiocese hide the pedophilia of many priests and deny justice to the victims.”
In what was deemed the big winner of tonight’s Oscars, Mad Max: Fury Road took home six Oscars, but failed to win any of the big prizes including Best Picture. These included Best Production Design, Best Film Editing, and both Best Sound awards.
Alejandro González Iñárritu made history by becoming the first Mexican to win back-to-back Best Director Oscars. Iñárritu won last year for Birdman, which also netted him a Best Picture Oscar.
In what was a long overdue win, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar for Best Actor in The Revenant. DiCaprio was 0-for-5 going into tonight’s Oscars. During his Oscar acceptance speech, DiCaprio pointed out the problem with climate change, and that there needed to be a drastic change in protecting the environment.
Actress Brie Larsen took home the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as a young woman who is kidnapped and forced to live in isolation with her young son in Room. Larson beat out the likes of former Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett
Tonights Oscars was deemed very snub-worthy. Actor Mark Rylance took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in the Steven Spielberg film Bridge of Spies. Many had predicted that actor Sylvester Stallone would take home the Oscar for his portrayal of legendary boxer-turned-trainer Rocky Balboa in Creed. Stallone had won most of the major awards including the Golden Globe. Many had taken to social media to express their disgust.

But what could be considered the biggest snub of the night was that of Sam Smith winning Best Original song. Many angry viewers took to Twitter in disgust after it his win was announced. Though Smith did dedicate his win to the LGBTQ community, many felt the song was not the best and should’ve not been nominated to begin with.
Never in my life have I heard that Sam Smith song. But man, others on Twitter are destroying it, calling it the worst Bond song ever. Wow.

Actress Alicia Vikander beat out Kate Winslet to win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl. Winslet was heavily favored to win for her role in Steve Jobs, though Vikander had won many awards for her role.
Comedian Chris Rock pulled no punches in his opening monologue. This included a barrage of #OscarsSoWhite jokes where Rock took jabs at actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, who made comments about boycotting the Oscars due to no black actors being nominated.
Entertainment Weekly went on to recap the best of Rock’s Oscar jokes.
“Everybody went mad [this year] … Jada [Pinkett Smith] got mad. Jada said she’s not coming. Isn’t she on a TV show? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”
“I understand you’re mad. I’m not hating. … Jada’s mad her man Will [Smith] was not nominated for Concussion. I get it … It’s not fair that Will was this good and didn’t get nominated. You’re right. It’s also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West, okay?”

Enfin, belle surprise, méritée, avec le seul autre prix pour un film de la compétition long-métrage attribué à Christophe Offenstein pour Valley of Love de Guillaume Nicloux.
